The Height Of Fashion
Women have at one time or another worn them…high heels. Remember the high heels we wore at our prom, or to our best friend’s wedding, or worn them on that special date? It was the fashion years ago, and is still the fashion today. However, there is a new trend of “height” fashion in shoes among women. Women are paying $750 for a pair of six inch stiletto high heeled shoes. Have women lost their minds?
This is the newest and hottest shoe fashion on the market today. You would expect to see only celebrities wearing these shoes while they model in a fashion magazine, but women, in general, are buying them, and poof, they are six inches taller.
Honestly, these shoes should come with a warning label on them. Wearing stiletto high heeled shoes contributes to poor posture, stresses Achilles’ tendons and ankles, and can damage your heels. Fashion trends are often short-lived, but for some reason women take part in them as soon as it becomes trendy. Although looking fashionable is short-lived, women engage in this type of purchase because they can. It is just what women do.
I saw a young women at the mall wearing a pair of stiletto high heeled shoes. She was carrying her purse on one shoulder, her packages with the other, and at the same time, trying to walk on the slippery concrete flooring. The woman was leaning to one side with her purchases, while attempting to keep her large purse from slipping off her shoulder, but like a trooper, she continued to put one foot in front of the other in her stiletto high heeled shoes. People who observed her could not decide if she was off balance or was breaking these shoes in. She finally sat down on a bench nearby, while everyone exhaled the breaths we held, she smiled back at all of us.
I decided to sit next to this young women, and out of curiosity, I asked her why would she wear a pair of shoes like these. “Oh, aren’t these just great,” she replied. “My feet feel so sexy,” she added. When I offered to help her with her packages, she politely declined, saying, “I can manage.” “I have two more stops to make.” As I watched her, click- clacking away on those high heels, she looked totally deformed. I prayed she would make it to wherever she was headed to without a terrible fall. Ladies, I am all for fashion, but that scene was not only to comical, but scary to watch. When women often dress up, they generally look sexy in a well chosen dress, jewelry, and heels.
When heels properly fit and are at the right height, women walk with a feminine swing that turns heads with thoughts, of “Oh my, that is one fine looking woman.” These kinds of comments give women a thumbs up, and people hold their breath not in fear of expecting a fall, but because fashion has made a clear statement. There has to be a better reason to spend $750 on a pair of stiletto shoes. My take is that women love attention and taking part in a new fashion trend is their way of getting it. That is certainly a high price to pay for attention. In time, these shoes will loose their appeal and women will move onto something else to waste their money on. I cannot wait to see what will be the next fashion trend. Perhaps I would rather not know. This was bad enough! If you had $750, what would you spend it on?
